京都祇园傍晚散步｜从八坂神社走到花见小路，樱花季人潮实拍

Around 6 PM on April 5th, I left Yasaka Shrine in Kyoto and walked west along the streets of Gion. It was cherry blossom season, and the streets were packed with tourists from all over the world. I turned into Hanamikoji Street, strolled among the traditional machiya (townhouses), and then returned the way I came, rejoining the evening traffic and crowds. Having actually arrived in Kyoto, I found it wasn't quite the ancient capital I had imagined. Temples, shrines, and traditional streets are still preserved, but they are like scattered chess pieces, embedded in the vast modern city. Stepping out of an old alley, you're immediately surrounded by shops, cars, traffic lights, and hurried crowds. Perhaps Kyoto's most unique aspect isn't that it completely preserves the past, but rather that it allows the past to exist in the cracks of modern life.
