Art, Craft, and Creativity Creativity is the reorganization of the subject's relationship with reality. In Freud, this appears as "sublimation," in Klein as "repair," in Winnicott as "play," in Bion as "thinking," in Lacan as "the organization of lack," and in Leader as "a knot formed against disintegration." Therefore, creativity should be considered not as a privilege or a romantic excess, but as a necessary structure for some subjects. Creativity is not always a savior; sometimes it only postpones collapse. Nevertheless, it is one of the most specific responses the subject constructs within their own fragile structure. A person who romanticizes creativity with a veneer of madness has never seen the clinic; or rather, they don't know it. Psychotic breakdown is not aesthetic. Manic exuberance is not freedom. Severe narcissistic breakdown is not "depth." Production is often merely a means of regulating anxiety against madness. Creativity is not madness. But they revolve around the same axis. Madness is a formless dissolution. Creativity is the attempt to give form to that dissolution. Creativity is not the reward of madness; it is often merely a way to postpone collapse.
