Seler - wysiew krok po kroku. Sprawdzona metoda wysiewu selera. Kiedy sieje seler?

Sowing celery is the topic of today's episode of the "Vegetable Garden" series. Everyone has their own method. I'll present mine, step by step. I've been using it for several years now, and it always works. The most important thing is not to cover the celery seeds with soil. For more details, watch the video. Enjoy! Some people sow celery as early as the end of January, others sow celery in early March. Last year, I harvested celery at the end of October and sowed it in early February. So, I concluded that the first half of February is the perfect time to prepare celery seedlings. Seedling production takes 8 to 12 weeks, so if we want ready-made seedlings in May, we need to start around February. We can also sow celery root, the most well-known and probably most commonly used in the kitchen. This season, I'm using the 'Bruno' variety with its large, oval, white roots. We can also grow celery, which is eaten as thick, fleshy petioles. I have two varieties, one with a mild flavor and the other more aromatic. We can also sow celery leaves. Some people broadcast sow it in pots like herbs. However, I'll prepare seedlings of this plant as well. All these celery varieties can be sown at the same time. And besides seeds, we also need containers, soil, and water. Let's start with containers. Flat containers work best for growing celery. These can be seed trays, which can be purchased at garden centers. I personally use plastic food containers, in this case, meat containers. Since I already bought a piece of plastic, I'd like to give it some use. This way, I can extend the life of this plant a bit. However, remember to make holes in the bottom of these plastic trays. This is absolutely essential. I don't use multi-pots for celery; I find it difficult to remove the delicate seedlings from them while pricking them out. It's a good idea to label our makeshift pots right away so that we don't have trouble distinguishing the plants we're growing. Mine uses a piece of paper tape with a description. Another element of seedling production is the soil. If we invest in a fine, airy, and truly permeable soil for sowing and pricking out, in my experience, there's no need to add perlite or sand. The soil I use has sand added to it. Plants sown in it germinate without any problems. For celery, we don't need to add much soil; in such a container, we can leave an extra centimeter or two at the top to make watering the seedlings easier. If the soil we're using seems dry, we can lightly mist it at this stage, but only if it's completely dry. Mine is fine, so I can move on to leveling it. For celery, it's worth leveling and lightly pressing the soil. This is because celery seeds are very small. Perhaps not as small as, say, petunia seeds, but still small. A packet usually contains far too many for a traditional, small vegetable garden or allotment. Therefore, it can last for two, or even three, seasons. Spread the seeds quite widely, as far apart as sowing such small seeds allows. Celery seeds are even smaller than celery roots, and celery leaves seem to be even smaller. Sowing them can be compared to salting. This amount is completely sufficient for pricking out these plants later. Then gently press them into the soil. And that's it. Don't cover them with soil or sand. Leave them uncovered. When pressing, be careful not to let the seeds stick to your hand, as you could accidentally transfer them to another container. Finally, it's worth watering your seeds gently, and it's best to do this with a sprayer. Never use a watering can, unless you're really skilled at applying a gentle enough stream to avoid washing away the seeds. A sprayer dispenses water so that the seeds only adhere to the soil better, but don't sink too deep. Finally, I cover my freshly sown celery plants with plastic wrap. These pieces of plastic wrap are passed from container to container. I recently used them for geraniums, now they'll be used for celery, and then we'll see... Remember to air them out daily, by uncovering the plastic wrap for a few or a dozen minutes.
