Surviving 13½ Hours on a CrossCountry Train. What's This Journey from Aberdeen-Penzance REALLY Like?

The day has finally come! I've been wanting to do this trip for AGES but it's always been a bit out of reach due to price. Well today is the day, so join me onboard a CrossCountry Voyager train as I 'look forward' to 13½ hours in their infamous standard class seat - but it can't be so bad...can it? Hotels especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman. WHERE'S ALICJA?
