The Gibson ES-330 is often overshadowed by the ES-335 and the Epiphone Casino, but it's a unique guitar with its own distinct voice. I recently traded my 2011 ES-335 for a 330, and while nostalgia sometimes makes me miss the 335, I still prefer the sound of the ES-330. 0:00 Introduction 2:08 Essential ES-330 Tones 7:55 Guitarists who played the ES-330 My Top ES-330 Tones: 🎸 Classic Rock – More midrange and punch than a Telecaster or Stratocaster. Great for rock rhythm but not as heavy as a 335. 🎸 Retro Blues – Articulate P-90 neck pickup with a smooth breakup. Works great with tremolo, slapback delay, or a Leslie speaker. 🎸 Jazz – Cuts through beautifully in a jazz combo, especially alongside an organ. Rolling back the tone and volume enhances the punch of each note. Legendary ES-330 Players: 🎶 Grant Green – Played one during his early Blue Note years. Used a strap attached to the headstock like Wes Montgomery. 🎶 Terry Smith – Check out Fall Out for his signature tone. Used heavy flatwound strings and thick ivory picks. 🎶 Emily Remler – Played a cherry red ES-330, even after swapping P-90s for humbuckers. 🎶 Ted Greene – Known for the Telecaster, but loved his early dot-neck ES-330. The Gibson ES-330 has a sound and feel that sets it apart. What are your thoughts on it compared to the ES-335 or Epiphone Casino?
