The spark plug is responsible for generating the spark (electric spark), essential for good engine performance and fuel consumption. It is an electrical device that fits into the cylinder head of an internal combustion engine and receives a voltage of 20,000 or 30,000 volts from the coil, via the distributor rotor. Due to the continuity of current circulation in inductive circuits, a spark is generated at its tip. Because the tip of the spark plug is inside the combustion chamber, this spark causes the air/fuel mixture drawn from the carburetor or electronic injection to explode, causing the piston to move away and consequently the vehicle to operate.
