Vacant premises on the ground floors, and often on other floors as well, are also a neglected problem, and they've appeared even on streets that were considered busy. People don't want to come here, say, with their children on the weekends to go for a walk, the businessman laments. "It's a paradox – Riga's city center has great potential. We have a huge Art Nouveau heritage – and in this respect, we're unique. Parks, the Daugava River, the proximity of the port. But all of this somehow doesn't add up to a people-friendly picture," says Liga Plaude-Stukovenko, head of a well-known Latvian real estate company. "My pain is the old, beautiful buildings in central Riga," notes Liga Plaude-Stukovenko with a sad sigh. "They require significant investment, but knowing the purchase price, renovation costs, and overall construction costs, it's clear that ultimately selling the apartments at a profit will be nearly impossible." Latvian entrepreneurs unanimously say that souvenir and antique shops are replacing kebab shops. There are dozens of them in Riga: Pakistan Kebabs, Hasana Kebabs, Turkebaba, and so on. The addresses are very central. In the comments to the post, readers write that central Riga has always been designed for tourists. "But where are they? Ouch!" - people write. And they notice that Latvia, and Riga in particular, is becoming increasingly Muslim. Dozens of Muslim communities have opened: "Idel," "Iman," "Islam," "Koran," and so on. Thousands upon thousands of Tatars, Azerbaijanis, Bashkirs, and Muslims from many countries live in the republic. Moreover, their number is growing every day due to refugees crossing the border. And in the capital of Latvia, restaurants listed in the Michelin Guide are closing one after another. Restaurateurs attribute this to a lack of tourists. Furthermore, the indigenous population of the central Baltic republic is steadily declining. The population is growing only due to migrants. This means there will be more and more kebab shops. It's paradoxical that, say, Russians have always eagerly visited the famous Latvian cuisine chain "Lido." However, now tourists from the east are not allowed into Latvia.
