Varalakshmi Vrata is celebrated in Southern States of India on the Friday before the full moon - Poornima - in the month of Shravana. In his composition, "Shri Varalakshmi", Muthuswami Dikshitar elaborately describes the Goddess and calls out these details in the Charanam lines - "shraavaNa powrNamee poorvastha shukravaarE".
