The Chicago Migrant Coalition warned that the death of Mexican national Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, which occurred during an ICE operation in Houston, reflects a lack of transparency in the use of force by U.S. immigration authorities. Manuel Castro, a member of the organization, stated that the information released has been biased and supported the Mexican government's decision to demand an investigation into the cases of Mexican nationals who have died in custody or during immigration operations. Castro pointed out that, in addition to the 17 cases mentioned by Mexican authorities, migrant organizations have documented 56 deaths related to ICE actions, which he described as a humanitarian crisis. He also called for greater pressure from the U.S. Congress and Mexican legislators to guarantee dignified treatment and respect for the human rights of migrants.
