What is the difference between two-stage and variable-speed AC? A two-stage system has two levels of output: high and low. A variable-speed inverter system can ramp up and down much more precisely, which helps maintain steadier temperatures, quieter performance, and better comfort. Why are variable-speed systems often a better value now? Because in many cases, they’re only slightly more expensive than two-stage systems, but deliver much better comfort, stronger rebate potential, and lower operating costs.
