Recreating the Iconic 1963 Doctor Who Theme – Spitfire Audio
The Doctor Who Theme, created in 1963 by Ron Grainer and Delia Derbyshire, was a landmark in music history. It was the first TV theme built entirely from electronic sound. Using musique concrète techniques, tape manipulation, and test-tone oscillators, it redefined what was possible in music production. In this video, Spitfire Audio’s Callum McNeill breaks down the original techniques and recreates the iconic theme using our BBC Radiophonic Workshop and BBC Symphony Orchestra libraries.
