Amtrak 51 with a Giant Beech Grove Shop Train Led by GP38-3 753 includes three full views

Thursday is usually the day the Beech Grove Shop train runs north on the head end of Amtrak 51, the westbound Cardinal. Despite the fact the train was running very late, today was that day the shop train would move. Engine issues in Virginia and freight train interference issues put the train down significantly, too much to overcome. The Beech Grove Shop train was a sizable one this day, the biggest I’ve ever observed on the Cardinal. Seeing the GP38-3’s on the point was also quite the treat. Five engines and twelve cars on the Shop train along with two engines and six cars on the regular train for a total of twenty-total units to the train hence 100 axles reported by the Cedar Lake detector at milepost 36.7. The train size made for quite the impressive sight. It was a steamy 98 degrees and unfortunately my north facing camera overheated and shut down so my apologies for not getting a view of the train departing from that one. I kept the main camera on the train to give a bit of a better angle of view than from the south camera at the very south end of the platform. Thanks for reading and watching. Like what you’re seeing?
