This Air Filter Cost Me a Turbo… So I Did It Properly.

VW 1.9 TDI turbo failure after running a cone air filter. Turbo rebuilt and intake system redesigned in my T25. I’ve been running a cone filter on the van for a while. It seemed fine. It wasn’t. When I pulled the turbo, the compressor wheel was badly eroded. Dust and grit had been getting through and slowly eating it, sapping power from the engine to the point where it was horrible to drive, and it was my own doing. So I rebuilt the turbo and started again with the intake. New pipework, proper sealed airbox, and a setup that should actually protect the engine. This one’s not about performance. It’s about fixing something properly after getting it wrong.
