Broadcast on September 15, 2025 September 15th is Respect for the Aged Day. As of September 1st, there are 959 centenarians in Aomori Prefecture, marking an increase for the second consecutive year. We asked the prefecture's oldest person, a 107-year-old man, about the secret to his longevity. [Announcer Chiaki Inaba] "He just arrived. He's the oldest man in the prefecture. He's walking toward us with a firm gait." This energetic grandfather attends a day care center in Tsugaru City twice a week. [Seishirō Miura] (Q: What is your name and age?) "Seishirō Miura, born March 31, 1918." "I'm 107 years old." Seishirō Miura is 107 years old. Since last year, he has been the oldest man in the prefecture. [Seishiro Miura] (Q. How does it feel to be the oldest man in the prefecture?) "I never dreamed this would happen. I'm incredibly happy." The youngest of four siblings, he currently lives with his son, his wife, and his grandson, his wife, and their children. What's the secret to his longevity? [Seishiro Miura] "I wake up early and do my exercises." (Q. Do you eat a proper meal?) "Yes, I have porridge, but I always have a bowl full of it." (Q. What are your favorite foods?) "Trout, sea bream, and clams from Aomori Prefecture." He also apparently drinks ginger tea made by his son's wife every day. His hobby is drawing. He draws pictures of Hirosaki Castle and Neputa floats. What kind of person is Mr. Miura to the day care staff? [Day Service Kakko, Deputy Director, Tatekimura Kanako] "He's so cheerful and energetic, it's hard to believe he's 107 years old. He inspires us every day." "I think he was walking with a walker earlier, but sometimes he gets really fast and starts running, so we have to stop him when that happens." Miura is an object of admiration among facility users. What are his future goals? [Miura Seishirō] "I'm determined to keep working hard." (Q: What's your goal age?) "I'd like to live until I'm about 110." According to Aomori Prefecture, as of January 1, there are 959 people aged 100 or older in the prefecture, an increase of 102 from fiscal year 2024. This marks the second consecutive year of increase. By gender, the number of men increased by six from the previous year to 80. Women increased by 96 from fiscal year 2024 to 879, making women 91.7%. As of January 1, 519 people will turn 100 in fiscal year 2025, an increase of 51 from fiscal year 2024.
