Family Centred Care for Sick Newborn- Session 2- Developmental Supportive Care
Family Centred Care (FCC) for a sick New Born is an empirical approach which has been Pioneered and conceptualized at Dr. R.M. L. hospital and PGIMER, New Delhi under the leadership and guidance of Dr. (Prof.) Arti Maria , HOD Department of Neonatology. This approach aims to develop and nurture family's role in partnership with health care team in care of a sick new born. Family Centred Care in a health facility setting truly is an alliance between the health care team and the family of the sick neonate. Family Centred Care creates an environment responsive to the needs of the family, is culturally sensitive and provides a setting in which family is empowered, encouraged and supported in caring for their sick newborn in addition to available nursing staff. To complement the care of their sick newborn not only in the nursery, from admission through discharge but is also likely to be the cornerstone for continuum of care for the baby even at home after discharge. This capacity building of Parents - attendants is done by regular training sessions using structured and indigenously made 4 Audio Visual (AV) modules. Also, along with these training sessions parents are given demonstrations and hands on experience so that they can provide quality care to their sick newborns not only in hospital but even after the discharge.
