Spaces which are not used in calculation are excluded spaces Tonnage measured using tonnage convention is called International tonnage GROSS TONNAGE GT is the function of the moulded volume of all enclosed spaces of the ship. GT is the measurement of overall size of the shape determined in accordance with the provision of tonnage convention. Gross tonnage is calculated from the formula GT = K1V, where V is the volume of a ship’s enclosed spaces in cubic metres and K1 is a constant calculated by K1 = 0.2 + 0.02 log10 V NET TONNAGE volume of cargo carrying capacity of ship. NT means the measurement of useful capacity of the ship determined in accordance with the provision of convention. In the NT formula: The factor (4d/3d)2 shall not be taken as greater than unity K2Vc.factor shall not be taken as less than 0.25 gross tonnage Net tonnage shall not be less than 0.3 Gross tonnage Vc : total volume of cargo spaces in metre cube K2 =0.2 + 0.02 log 10 Vc or as tabulated in Appendix 2 K3 =1.25 x (GT + 10000) /10000 d : The ship's moulded draft amidships in meters, and D : The ship's moulded depth amidships in metres N1: number of passengers in cabins N2 : number of other passengers N1 + N2 : number of passengers ship permitted to carry IMPORTANT TERMS Certifying Authority ( Class) : after surveying and measuring spaces calculate GT and N T as per the above formula and then issues and international tonnage certificate. Cargo Spaces: spaces to be included in computation of NT, spaces appropriate for transport of cargo, spaces Shall be marked with letter cc (cargo compartment) size must be greater than 4 inches. Enclosed Spaces: spaces which of bounded by ship's hull by fixed or portable partitions or bulkheads by decks or other coverings Excluded Spaces : spaces not included in the volume of enclosed spaces. These are the spaces used for running the ship example Bridge machinery spaces and steering gear room etc Weather Tight : spaces where the water shall not penetrate in any sea condition Information on international tonnage certificate Front : Name of the ship, port of registry, official number of The vessel.
