We Got Lost On A Canoe Route And It Turned Out Great | Crown Land Northern Ontario

Have you ever gotten lost on a canoe route? We just did! Briefly. We had planned initially for this weekend to paddle the raging whitewater of the Spanish River, but a very dry summer had us pivot to this crown land route in Northern Algoma, Ontario, Canada instead. We didn't have time to plan as we normally would, with satellite maps, topo maps and reviewing the route together ahead of time. All we had was Kevin Callan's trusty "Top 60 Canoe Routes of Ontario" guide to follow. It's an awesome guide book and the maps are, as always, fantastic and easy to follow. With one little exception on this route. . Turns out, what he has labeled "Toodee Lake" is not actually that lake after all. He had never been up that far on this route, so he went by word of mouth of it being an alternate access to the route. So when we put in, we headed immediately in the wrong direction, which set us behind. . We ended up simply base camping, awaiting forecasted thunderstorms and wild weather - but it never came. We got lovely, hot and sunny weather for the most part, while the mosquitoes and blackflies harassed us almost non-stop. It did little to dampen our spirits, though, and we thoroughly enjoyed our 4 days in the wilderness. We hope you do too!
