Inspecting SBC Block for Roundness & Taper | Ridge Reaming and Honing Tutorial

In this video, we move to the heart of the engine: the block. I'll show you how to accurately inspect the cylinder bores for roundness and taper to determine if this Small Block Chevy is a candidate for a simple re-ring or if it needs a full bore and hone. This is done using the techniques shown by Uncle Tony's Garage ( @UncleTonysGarage ) which includes performing an initial hone and checking the borings for roundness and taper using a old piston ring. We also tackle the ridge left at the top of the cylinder using a ridge reamer and finish up with a light honing to prep the surface for new rings. If you’re rebuilding an engine in your garage, these measurements are the difference between a reliable build and a premature failure.
