Brief Political History of Virginia

This video recounts the history of Virginia. It begins with the first people that made Virginia their home, continues with European exploration including the Spanish and English. It then looks at how this became the first English colony in the Americas, how tobacco sustained it, and how it was central to the development of British America and then the Early Republic until the 1820s. It continues with its role in the Civil War and how it severely damaged its economic prospects. It then looks at the battle for civil rights and how Virginians were some of its pioneers and finishes with its development and transformation in the last few decades.
