This journey begins at Houtong Railway Station. Leaving behind the familiar image of the cat village, we step into another story preserved by time in the Ruifang mountains. Following the Xiaochukeng Ancient Trail, traversing the Shumeiping ridgeline, and finally reaching the ruins of the Dachukeng settlement, we complete a historic O-shaped hiking route. This route once connected the mountain settlements of Houtong, Jiufen, and Jinguashi. In the past, miners and residents traveled along these mountain paths, leaving behind stone steps, retaining walls, irrigation canals, and settlement ruins. Today, walking on the ancient trail surrounded by forests, although the prosperity has faded, we can still imagine what life in the mining villages was like from the traces left along the way. During our journey, we passed through: 📍 Houtong Station 📍 Xiaochukeng Ancient Trail 📍 Shumeiping Ridge Viewing Platform 📍 Surrounding Mountains of Jinguashi Geopark 📍 Dachukeng Ancient Trail and Settlement Ruins Standing at Shumeiping, you can see Keelung Mountain and Wuerchahu Mountain in the distance, experiencing the unique mountain and sea scenery of the Shuijinjiu area. Entering Dachukeng, the stone walls and ruins surrounded by forests make you rethink the meaning of a settlement's past existence. Walking the ancient trails is not just about completing a route. It's about rediscovering the culture, history, and people who once lived on this land with every step.
