SUMMARY: Leon van Gelder's DA model can be used to prepare, implement, and evaluate instruction. The model helps you, as a teacher, focus on the core of education and thus improve learning outcomes. The model addresses several key questions: 1. What objectives should students achieve? 2. What is the starting situation? 3. How can I design instruction? This includes the sub-questions: 3a. What learning material should I choose and how should I organize it? 3b. What teaching methods should I use? 3c. What learning activities should I have students engage in? 3d. What learning resources should I use? and 4. The evaluation, with the question: What results did I achieve with my teaching? The key questions help you prepare and conduct a lesson. They can also be used for lesson evaluation. If you want to know why a lesson didn't go as planned, you can use the questions to conduct a didactic analysis of the lesson. You can also do this with other teaching models and educational theories. The DA model helps you focus on designing your teaching and learning tasks to achieve your educational objectives. By continuously evaluating the interventions in the lesson and identifying areas for improvement for the next lesson, you ensure that your lessons and the learning outcomes achieved improve.
