Orania: South Africa’s Whites-Only Town

Let's investigate Orania, South Africa. Known for being an afrikaners-only town, Orania has sparked heated debates and raised questions about apartheid, segregation, and racial tensions. But what is it actually like on the ground? During my visit, I explore how this small town functions and why it has become such a unique experiment in self-governance. Orania operates in many ways differently from the rest of the country. The town has its own local currency called the Ora, a high level of economic self-sufficiency, and many residents say the community experiences very low crime compared to other parts of South Africa. Some people even claim the town essentially runs itself, with limited reliance on outside government institutions. Others point to the unusual fact that the community has very little visible policing, raising questions about how order is maintained. In this video we walk through the town, speak with locals, and take a closer look at how daily life actually works in Orania. Is it really self-sustained? Why does it have its own currency?
