Bri Lee: How Bri became incendiary | ABC Conversations Podcast
Bri Lee grew up in the suburbs of Brisbane, as the bright, chatty daughter of a policeman and an artist. She studied law, then won a prestigious job as a Judge's Associate, which meant she travelled to District Courts all over Queensland. These touring court sessions dropped her right into some of the most terrifying and squalid corners of Australian life. Most of the cases she was dealing with were sexual assault of women or children. One day, a particularly awful case compelled her to come to terms with a crime committed against her when she was a child. Bri went to the police, and found herself on the other side of the courtroom when the case went to trial. Her subsequent memoir about this part of her life became a best-seller. Since then she has also written non-fiction works taking on the beauty industry and the world of elite education. Bri's first novel The Work has just been released. Further information Eggshell Skull, Beauty, Who Gets to Be Smart and Bri's new novel The Work are published by Allen and Unwin Help and support are always available.
