The immortal centaur Chiron embodies, for me, not only wisdom. He is regarded as the founder of Asclepian medicine and the teacher of heroes such as Achilles but above all the profound duality that echoes throughout human existence. Half beast and half man, he represents the Jungian archetype of our divided nature, forever balancing instinct and consciousness. At least, that is how I experience him. After Zeus took away his immortality, Chiron lived out the rest of his life as an old man. When he finally died, he was placed among the stars, where his spirit has been associated ever since with the celestial Archer, Sagittarius. His life story and fate (rejected by his mother Philyra at birth because she believed she had given life to a monster) move me deeply. I am grateful that his light still remains with us. And yes...
