Philippe Jaroussky, Artaserse – Alessandro Scarlatti: La Giuditta: "Dormi, o fulmine di guerra"

The earliest recording of Philippe Jaroussky in the Erato catalogue, made in 1999, is his interpretation of Ismaele in the oratorio Sedecia, re di Gerusalemme by Alessandro Scarlatti. Now the countertenor returns to Scarlatti for a soothing but soulful aria from La Giuditta, based on the biblical story of Judith. "That being said, I am very fond of oratorio as a genre, because I think composers of this period often give of their best when setting the great stories of the Old Testament. It takes a stronger sense of spirituality to embody a saint – or even to portray God himself – in music than to give expression to the amorous passions of a prince or a queen." __________ Warner Classics ► Website: http://www.warnerclassics.com Subscribe to our: ► YT- Channel: https://wnrcl.me/subscribeYT ► Newsletter https://wnrcl.me/subscribeNL Follow us on: ► Facebook: http://www.fb.com/WarnerClassicsErato ► Instagram:   / warner_classics   ► Twitter:   / warnerclassics   ► YouTube:    / warnerclassics   Listen to us on: ► Spotify: http://open.spotify.com/user/warnercl... ► Apple Music: http://itunes.apple.com/curator/warne... ► Deezer https://www.deezer.com/profile/321050935 Warner Classics is the home of classical music, featuring iconic high audio quality recordings from the greatest classical legends, opera stars and orchestras of the last century.
