Vignettes of Vintage GE Critters At The New New Hope Valley Railway In Bonsal NC 3/28/2026

A couple clips of the New Hope Valley Railway operating their Easter excursion trains behind GE 65 Tonner #399 and 80-Tonner #671. The 399 was built by General Electric in September 1943 as U.S. Navy #65-00399. The locomotive would initially serve at the Naval Ammunition Magazine in Theodore, AL. It would later be transferred to the U.S. Marine Corps as USMC 289330, and assigned to Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville NC. Painted in an original Norfolk Southern Railway inspired livery, New Hope Valley Railroad GE 80 Tonner #671 was built by General Electric in 1952 for the U.S Army, it was assigned to the Military Ocean Terminal at Sunny Point. In January of 2017, the 1640 and a sister engine 671 were bought and moved to the New Hope Valley Railway in 2017.
