Overwatch: The Problem With Winstreaks

Overwatch is in a GREAT place right now, but we never want to stop voicing our concerns to help improve the game experience through our feedback to the devs. The experiments they've done with the SR system, well... We don't think they've yielded satisfactory results. In this video, FREEDO explains the flaws behind the harsh win/loss streak SR booms/busts and the effect it has on the matchmaking gameplay experience in Overwatch. It's a problem if you go on a short win or loss streak and can turn up at an entirely different rank within a session. FREEDO has been able to play a handful of games at GM, but then after a series of events tumble all the way down to as low as almost-plat - but worse, able to climb back again over the next few sessions. In effect, this turns diamond to GM almost one entire rank, as the boundaries and boarders to raise or fall are non-existant, you essentially can drift in either direction without much control over your situation, bar playing long enough to eventually get lucky again to boost into a higher rank. The ranks would perform much more accurately to a skill tier if they were more stable, period. It is better to have to dedicate a week or two to raise a rank rather than a single play session, because, there's no way to establish any long-term consistency in the current state of matchmaking, because the level of players you're paired with varies so widely, because when everyone's rank can easily be in flux like this, there's no telling who should actually be where. FREEDO advocates for a more slow-burn on the rank system so that there's less variation within a rank and you'd know what you could expect from a Diamond, a Masters or a GM player, but currently, it's a mixed bag entirely.
