Tips with André Ganc riding the Drums in Working Equitation

In this video, clinician André Ganc shares practical tips and insights on riding the The Drums obstacle — also refered to as the three barrels — during a clinic filmed this past winter 25’-26’. This is not the full clinic, but rather a collection of helpful training nuggets, explanations, and takeaways that can help riders better understand the obstacle and improve their approach. (The tripod repositions a few times to shake things up in the video.😜) Throughout the video, André discusses how the drums can be used to develop balance, communication, accuracy, and rider timing while helping horses become more confident and educated through the turns. Whether you’re brand new to Working Equitation or already competing, there are some valuable concepts here that apply across levels. One of the biggest discussion points is the training process itself: Do horses need to come into Working Equitation already highly trained, or can the obstacles actually help teach and develop the horse along the way? At the end of the video, we recap some of the major takeaways from the lesson and would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. 👇 Let us know: • What was your biggest takeaway from this video? • How do you personally approach teaching the drums? • Do you believe Working Equitation helps TRAIN the horse, or should the horse already have those skills before starting?
