For decades, audiophiles have chased one goal: getting closer to the music. Better speakers. I know I have! Better amplifiers. Better recordings. Better sound. But two recent experiences left me scratching my head. First, I spent time listening to Dolby Atmos (Spatial Audio) music in my own listening room. Then, at a major audio show, I heard about people requesting AI-generated songs to demo high-end systems. That got me thinking (and that's always a dangerous thing)... If a computer writes the song, a computer performs the song OR Atmos places the instruments all around the room, making the audio engineer the "star" … what exactly are we listening to anymore? This isn’t an anti-technology rant. Atmos can be amazing. Artificial Intelligent (AI) is here whether we like it or not. It's very polarizing.
