Mitar Pyare Nu | Machhiwara Da Jangal | Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Darkest Night

A devotional tribute to one of the most intimate and heartbreaking moments in Sikh history — Guru Gobind Singh Ji, alone in the thorny jungle of Machhiwara, after the Battle of Chamkaur. Having lost all four of his sons and the Singhs who stood with him at Chamkaur and Sirhind, the Guru fled into the wilderness with nothing — no army, no family, no shelter. Barefoot on thorns, surviving on the bitter leaves of the Akk plant, he rested one night against an old Jand tree with only a clay water-pot for a pillow. It was here, in absolute solitude, that he composed one of the most tender verses ever written in Sikh scripture: "Mitar Pyare Nu Haal Muridan Da Kehna" — Tell the Beloved Friend the state of His devotees. This shabad holds that paradox whole — the unbearable grief of a father and Guru who had given everything, and the boundless love and surrender that poured out of him even in his darkest hour. Soon after, he was found by Bhai Daya Singh, Bhai Dharam Singh, and Bhai Man Singh, and sheltered by the devoted Pathan brothers Nabi Khan and Gani Khan, who disguised him as "Uch Da Peer" to carry him to safety. From the depths of sorrow came words that have comforted the Sikh soul for over three hundred years. May this humble offering be received with love.
