Александр Градский о Викторе Цое (2012)

I had to comment: http://www.newlookmedia.ru/?p=49259 On June 21, 2012, I invited Alexander-svet-Borisych Gradsky to the studio of my project "Pravda-24"... Our media outlets were celebrating Viktor Tsoi's 50th birthday. And the Moscow 24 channel also held a "name day." I invited ABG to discuss the music of "Kino." But the "father of Soviet rock 'n' roll" devolved the conversation into a debate: does Moscow need a monument to composer Tsoi or to composer Mussorgsky? ABG completely ignored the solemn context of the anniversary. He spoke primarily (if not exclusively) about the importance of musical professionalism, categorically refusing to acknowledge the obvious: the phenomenon of popularity is called such precisely because it is proportionally independent of purely professional parameters. The broadcast was live, so my job was to bring Alexander Borisovich back to the conversation, reminding him that today wasn't just any day, but a "Danish" one. It wasn't without casualties. I clearly understood the outrage Gradsky's confident remarks would provoke among Tsoi's fans. So, I had to constantly interrupt him, just to the point of being polite, to distract him from his conceptual discourse and preemptively protect him from attacks. Well, it didn't work, no. The most typical comments: "The host is incredibly narcissistic. It's simply a mockery to invite a famous guest and do the talking himself. That is, to gather an audience to watch a celebrity, while trying his best to show off and endlessly steal the spotlight. Shut your mouth and talk a quarter of the time. He wanted to interrupt, so he shut up, three times, and on the fourth occasion he blurted out something, he started talking. He didn't even watch the rest of the show. What an idiotic way to host the show." *** "I'd kill that Evgeny Dodolev! He didn't really say anything himself, and he didn't let Gradsky have anything to say. The conversation ended up being pointless! I still don't understand how Gradsky feels about V. Tsoi's work. It's rare when a name suits a person: what a jerk!" "Produce a separate show with just one host, this Dodolev, where he can talk and ramble on. Let him talk to his heart's content, but don't let him be a guest." *** "The host is a real jerk! He's trying to hog the spotlight. Why did he even invite Gradsky? He should be admiring himself and his own opinions." That's how they behave in a small group over a shot. And they don't even know a thing about Tsoi." *** "Tsoi is a poet and composer, Gradsky too. Tsoi's words and music were ahead of their time, but Gradsky will pass away and I think he'll be quickly forgotten. He spoke more truthfully, but his envy runs deep... And the host, what can you say? You'd have to give him a running punch!" *** "Gradsky is envious. He's a genius but failed as a rock musician, and that haunts him. He started out in rock but then lost that path. Rock is truly the people's music, and the people's love for true rockers is eternal. Gradsky envies the greats and constantly trashes rockers in interviews. Either rockers aren't musicians because they didn't graduate from conservatories, or their composers aren't the right ones, or Grebenshchikov is a mathematician. He's just plain jealous. Ask the youth who Tsoi is, who GB is, who Kipelov is, and they'll tell you. But if you ask the youth who Gradsky is, they'll tell you it's that fat dude in a black shirt who hosts "The Voice." Don't be jealous, Mr. Gradsky. *** "Compared to Gradsky, Tsoi is an ignoramus. Nevertheless, Viktor wrote songs that Gradsky couldn't even dream of achieving. Gradsky has it all—his virtuoso vocals, his songs, his potential... but Tsoi is like an unattainable peak for him. God knows why. Comparing them is silly. They seem to be in the same niche, but they're terribly far apart. To be fair, the vast majority of rockers of that time were simply below the plinth. From the dreary punk-downers to Grebenshchikov, no one even came close to Tsoi. That's just how it is. This Korean has effectively captured an absolute majority in three years." *** "Gradsky is absolutely right. As for Tsoi, frankly speaking, he was a lousy singer, a lousy composer, and a lousy poet. Incidentally, the goat-voiced Grebenshchikov is in the same boat. He's a show-off fighting against something. True, none of them ever figured out what it was." *** "Gradsky has a wonderful voice, he's a professional performer, and CINEMA is for millions of ordinary people without a musical education who have honest emotions, and I count myself among them." Mussorgsky and Tchaikovsky will also be remembered by those 40,000 people 100-200 years from now, only because they will be played and listened to by people with professional education and a refined ear, who are responsible for bringing high art to the masses. And "KINO" will also be listened to by millions with genuine emotion, just as many generations listen to the Beatles. https://zen.yandex.ru/vide...
