Driving in the UK - M62 & M621 - Manchester to Leeds

Opened in 1971 by Queen Elizabeth II, the M62 crossing the peat moors of the Pennines was a major feat of engineering. By May 1973 a complete motorway route was available between the major cities of Manchester and Leeds - linking Lancashire and Yorkshire - vastly reducing the travel time. Near to J22 of the M62 reaches an altitude of 372m (1,221ft), making it the highest motorway in the UK. This video shows a real-time journey from J17 of the M60 Manchester orbital, along the M62 over the Pennines to J4 of the M621 near Leeds city centre. Also in this area is the famous arch of the Scammonden Bridge, 120ft above the motorway.
