Landscape Design Ideas-The New Back No Till Bed Design
I am re-leasing this since it is relevant for today! TODAY’S VIDEO: When I’m planning a new garden bed, I don’t wait until planting season to start thinking about it. In this video, I’m sharing how I plan a June garden install right in the middle of winter, when there’s time to slow down and really think things through. This bed sits in front of a row of arborvitae that act like a living fence, which means the light shifts throughout the day and plant choices really matter. I walk you through how I look at the space, map out the full design, and then break it into sections so everything works together instead of feeling pieced together later. I also talk through why I choose each plant — not just for how it looks now, but for how it will grow, fill in, and relate to the plants around it over time. Planning in winter helps me focus on structure, balance, and flow before spring distractions set in. If you enjoy landscape garden ideas, garden bed design, or seeing how a real garden plan comes together step by step, I think you’ll enjoy this one. I’ve included the full list of plants below so you can take ideas from this design and apply them to your own garden. HELLO: Hi, I’m Michelle! I live in Northern Illinois (Zone 5) and I’m lucky enough to spend my days doing what I love most — gardening. I own a garden center called The Landscape Connection with my husband, Glenn, and gardening has been my first passion for as long as I can remember. Cooking comes in as a close second! I was a Master Gardener with the University of Illinois Extension for 10 years, and I’m a retired landscape designer who also managed the landscape division of our company, Image Pros. On this channel, I share my gardening journey — teaching, inspiring, and entertaining along the way. I’m not happy unless my hands are in the dirt, and I hope you’ll join me in digging in too!
