Kashmiri Pandits organized the 'Global Kashmiri Pandit Heritage Tour and Conclave' in Srinagar.

In a landmark development, seven leading Kashmiri Pandit organizations -- GKPD, KOA, JKVM, SSK, KPA-Mumbai, YAIKS, and AMEAK came together to organize the first community-led engagement in the Kashmir Valley. For the first time in 36 years, Kashmiri Pandits gathered on their ancestral soil in Srinagar this month to hold the Global Kashmiri Pandit Heritage Tour and Conclave a landmark event that produced a sweeping resolution outlining concrete steps toward justice, rehabilitation, and the community's permanent return to Kashmir. The resolution, known as the Praagaash Resolution, was adopted unanimously by delegates representing the community's domestic and global diaspora. The conclave, convened at the confluence of heritage, identity, and political urgency, marks the most significant homeland engagement by the Kashmiri Pandit community since their forced displacement in 1990 a displacement that community leaders and an increasing number of government officials now describe as genocide. Background and Significance The Kashmiri Pandit exodus of 1989-1990 stands among the largest forced displacements of a religious minority in post-independence India. Approximately 350,000+ KP community members were forced to flee the Kashmir Valley amid violence and persecution, scattering across Jammu, Delhi, and countries around the world. For more than three decades, the community's engagement with its homeland remained largely symbolic -- confined to annual pilgrimages and political representations that produced limited results. The Heritage Tour broke that paralysis. Participants visited temples, shrines, ancestral springs, and heritage sites across the Valley as displaced community -- an act the Praagaash Resolution describes as the first tangible community-led step in breaking the paralysis of thirty-six years. The conclave expressed appreciation to the J&K administration for providing security arrangements and logistical support to make the visit possible.
