If the soil is very compacted from walking, you can loosen it slightly by digging in a gardening fork and gently moving it around. Don't dig over! The raised bed should be 120 cm wide. This will allow for good access to the plants from both sides. The border is made of 50x200mm pine boards (in my case, I used 70x200mm boards). I spread cardboard at the bottom of the bed. There's no agrotextile there! I placed unsifted compost on top of the cardboard, and then, as a second layer, sifted compost on top. Raised beds should only be filled with composted organic matter: compost, composted manure, composted sawdust, composted wood chips, or bark. They don't need to be completely filled. A few centimeters of living organic matter is enough to grow vegetables. The cardboard will soon decompose, attracting a large number of earthworms, and the vegetable roots will cope by burrowing into the soil.
