Compassionate Cafes | connect with people who understand
Compassionate Cafés are community-led initiatives providing the opportunity for anyone experiencing loss or bereavement, or affected by a life-limiting illness themselves, to connect with others over a cup of tea in a relaxed, supportive and understanding atmosphere. They are run by people who have taken part in one of our Compassionate Friends Awareness Sessions and receive light touch support from the St Luke’s Community Development team. Each café takes on a life of its own, with conversations with strangers often leading to friendships and mutual support. The Compassionate Café community in and around Plymouth continues to grow, highlighting the need for this kind of support to combat loneliness and isolation for people in the local neighbourhood who are bereaved or facing life-limiting illness. For more information about Compassionate Cafés please email [email protected] The Compassionate Cafés initiative is led by individuals in the community for the community. It is not the same as becoming a St Luke’s volunteer, which involves training for specific supportive roles within the organisation.
