Amphibians comprise a class of animals in the Phylum Arthropoda. Their best-known representatives are frogs, toads, and tree frogs. However, there are other less well-known but quite interesting groups of amphibians, such as salamanders and caecilians. In short, these animals are considered the first vertebrates to colonize the terrestrial environment. Despite this, some characteristics of their life cycle force a large portion of the species in this group to depend heavily on the aquatic environment. An example of this is when they are in the aquatic larval stage with very thin and permeable skin. As mentioned above, this characteristic of thin skin is what gives the group its name. The word amphibian comes from the Greek and means double (amphi) life (bio), since each part of their life cycle is developed in completely different environments. There are almost 6,000 species of amphibians around the planet, with about 600 living in Brazil. Although they are quite varied animals, with very diverse shapes and colors, they are generally small in size, not exceeding a few centimeters. Therefore, they are commonly tetrapods. That is, as adults they have four legs, with the exception of the caecilian group. These legs may have adaptations for jumping, as is the case with frogs, or they may be adapted for walking and swimming, as is the case with salamanders. Regarding their body temperature, amphibians, like fish and reptiles, are considered heterothermic (or poikilothermic) animals. That is, they do not have mechanisms to regulate their body temperature, generally matching the temperature of their environment. Questions? Leave them in the comments. ;) ⏱ TIMESTAMPS / TOPICS 00:00 Introduction 00:10 What are amphibians? 00:55 Amphibian Environments 01:17 Amphibian Digestion 02:55 Amphibian Respiration 04:33 Amphibian Excretion 05:30 Blood Circulation in Amphibians 06:46 Amphibian Reproduction 🔴 ALSO WATCH ANIMAL KINGDOM AND ITS CHARACTERISTICS • REINO ANIMAL E SUAS CARACTERÍSTICAS | Resu...
