Dupont de Ligonnès : le mystère reste entier #cdanslair 12.10.2019
The verdict came down early this afternoon: the DNA of the suspect arrested last night at Glasgow Airport in Scotland does not match that of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès. Following an anonymous tip, Scottish police believed last night that they had apprehended the fugitive, suspected of murdering his family eight years earlier. Authorities had even announced that the arrested man's fingerprints matched those of Dupont de Ligonnès. However, by Saturday morning, the excitement had been tempered when it was discovered that the fingerprints only partially matched and that the arrested man bore no resemblance to the fugitive. This Saturday, October 12, will therefore not mark the end of a case that has captivated France for eight years. On April 21, 2011, police in Nantes discovered the bodies of Agnès Dupont de Ligonnès and her four children buried under the terrace of the family home. The five victims were all shot twice in the head with a .22 long rifle sometime between April 3 and 5, 2011. Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, for his part, is nowhere to be found and was quickly suspected of being responsible for these murders. However, by the time the bodies were discovered, the suspect was already long gone. He left Nantes in his car and, after making several stops, his trail was picked up in a small town in the Var region, Roquebrune-sur-Argens. He left his car in the parking lot of a Formule 1 hotel, and it was an image captured by the hotel's security camera that would become the last known image of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès. It dates from April 15, 2011. Since then, Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès has become France's most famous fugitive. Hundreds of tips have been received by the police, who are investigating every promising lead. So far, without success. The Dupont de Ligonnès case remains officially unsolved, just like other famous cases such as that of Little Grégory, Omar Raddad, or the Godard family, who disappeared in 1999, and whose case is reminiscent of the Dupont de Ligonnès family, with the father considered the prime suspect. Will Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès ever be found? Why does this case fascinate the French so much? Can we speak of a media frenzy following the arrest of a man in Glasgow last night?
