The crews from the Feuerbach fire station, arriving seven minutes later, found heavy smoke billowing from several windows of an apartment building. One person fled to the balcony of their upstairs apartment because the stairwell was completely filled with smoke and inaccessible. The fire was located in a basement room and extinguished by the fire department within minutes. The person on the balcony was rescued using a turntable ladder. Firefighters also rescued a cat unharmed from the top floor. A resident inhaled smoke while attempting to extinguish the fire. He, along with an infant from the building, was taken to a hospital for observation. Following the firefighting operations, emergency personnel checked the apartments in the building for smoke ingress. The apartments remain habitable. The stairwell was ventilated with a high-powered fan. ------------- Stuttgart Fire Department: Top-floor apartment fully engulfed in flames - firefighter slightly injured Stuttgart (ots) Around 9:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, a top-floor apartment in an apartment building on Elsässer Straße in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen was fully engulfed in flames. When the fire department arrived a short time later, flames were shooting out of the attic windows, and the fire threatened to spread to the roof structure. Fortunately, all residents had been able to leave the building unharmed on their own, allowing the fire department to begin fighting the fire immediately upon arrival. The firefighting efforts were complex due to the building's construction. It took three-quarters of an hour to bring the fire under control. The mop-up operations continued into the morning hours, as the fire had spread into the wooden beam ceiling and a dividing wall, requiring these structural elements to be carefully opened to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent apartment. One firefighter sustained minor injuries during the firefighting operation. He was taken to a hospital for examination but was released shortly afterward. The apartment where the fire originated, as well as directly adjacent apartments in the building, are contaminated with smoke and are currently uninhabitable. Basement Fire in Stuttgart-Weilimdorf Rescue Operation: A basement fire on Fehrbelliner Straße filled the stairwell with heavy smoke, trapping a resident on a balcony. Firefighters rescued the individual using a turntable ladder and also rescued a cat from the top floor. Injuries: One resident was hospitalized for smoke inhalation after attempting to fight the fire themselves. An infant was also taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. 2. Major Apartment Fire in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen Fully Engulfed Unit: A top-floor apartment on Elsässer Straße was completely ablaze, with flames threatening to spread to the roof. While all residents evacuated safely, the complex firefighting operation took 45 minutes to control and lasted until the morning. Structural Damage: Crews had to extensively open wooden beam ceilings and walls to reach hidden embers. Consequently, the affected and adjacent apartments are currently uninhabitable, and residents have been relocated.
