Maio Amarelo 2026: “No trânsito, enxergar o outro é salvar vidas”

Every day, millions of people leave their homes, but not all reach their destination. In traffic, a second of distraction can change everything. In 2025, up to the month of October, 640 people lost their lives in traffic accidents on the roads and highways of Rio de Janeiro. The Yellow May campaign invites us to reflect on our role in saving lives. This year, 2026, the theme is: "In traffic, seeing the other is saving lives." The focus is on raising awareness to reduce accidents, encouraging active attention and empathy among drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists for a more humane traffic environment. Engineering is present in the safety of society, in urban planning, and in the construction of safer roads for the population. But traffic safety doesn't depend only on infrastructure; it depends on attitudes. Respect the limits. Don't use your cell phone while driving. Give priority to life. The CREA-RJ supports this cause because safer traffic starts with each of us.
