UK's Most Famous Army Regiment Was Born in THIS Tiny Scottish Town

The Coldstream Guards are Britain's most famous army regiment — but almost nobody knows they were born in a tiny Scottish border town. I went to find out a little military history. Coldstream sits right on the River Tweed — the ancient boundary between Scotland and England — and it's here that General Monck crossed with his army in 1660, setting in motion events that would restore the British monarchy and give the world one of its most iconic military regiments. You've seen them at Buckingham Palace. You probably didn't know THIS is where their story started. In this video I explore the town of Coldstream in the Scottish Borders — from the famous bridge where Monck crossed into England, to Henderson Park and the Coldstream Guards memorial, to the High Street that still carries centuries of history. Plus the connection to the Battle of Flodden that shaped this entire region. We'll also hear about why Coldstream was known as the Gretna Green of the East. And a football match that shaped the border between England and Scotland. This is the kind of hidden gem that most travellers drive straight past on the way to Edinburgh. Don't make that mistake. 00:00 Welcome to Coldstream in the Scottish Border - Why you must watch this video 01:20 Crossing the Border between Scotland and England 02:28 Gretna Green of The East and the Marriage House 03:41 Coldstream High Street 05:16 Henderson Park and the History of the Coldstream Guards 07:41 Coldstream Pubs, Cafes and the Coldstream Chippy 10:17 Coldstream Town Square, Coldstream Guards Museum and Coat of Arms 12:22 Story of the Battle of Flodden Field 13:28 The Football Match that shaped the Scotland England Border 14:54 What's The Coldstream CHIPPY like? 18:15 What do we think of Coldstream? #ColdstreamGuards #ScottishHistory #ScottishBorders #Coldstream #ScotlandTravel #MilitaryHistory #BritishArmy #HiddenGems #Scotland #TravelVlog If you enjoyed this video please subscribe to my YouTube Channel - it's totally free:    / @rogedwardstv   Instagram:   / rogeraedwards   LinkedIn:   / rogeraedwards   Music: https://www.epidemicsound.com
