Earlier, on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump declared the ceasefire agreement with Iran over and ordered new attacks. "We're going to hit them really hard tonight." Referring to the existing ceasefire, he stated, "As far as I'm concerned, it's over." However, he left the door open for further negotiations. On his return flight from the NATO summit to the US, the president told reporters that the Iranian side had "called recently" and was "very keen to make a deal." Trump did not provide details about the call, nor did he reveal who he had spoken to. At the same time, however, he again expressed doubts about the value of a potential agreement and described the Iranians as "pretty crazy." The leadership in Tehran responded to the new US attacks with attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait—and, like Trump, threatened to escalate them. In the two Gulf states, "important infrastructure and facilities" of the US military had been targeted with missiles and drones, according to a statement from the Revolutionary Guard, broadcast on Iranian state television. The Kuwaiti army stated on the online news service X that it was repelling "hostile missile and drone attacks." Any explosions that might be heard were "the result of air defense systems defending against enemy attacks." Meanwhile, several explosions were heard in Bahrain, according to an AFP correspondent. The Revolutionary Guard also warned that it would expand its attacks to other bases in the region if there were further US attacks. Tehran's chief negotiator, Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf, also threatened Washington: "The United States still hasn't grasped that intimidation and broken promises no longer go unpunished," he wrote on the online news service X. "Let me make one thing clear: Whoever attacks will be attacked." At the same time, Ghalibaf emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz would only be opened under "Iranian conditions." The strait and access to it are one of the main points of contention between Washington and Tehran.
