Nova Semente (New Seed) was born as an evangelistic project of the Seventh-day Adventist Church with the purpose of planting a church in the central region of São Paulo. After almost two decades of work, Nova Semente is a Seventh-day Adventist Church with a vibrant in-person and virtual community. Its structure and nature are exactly the same as those found in any Seventh-day Adventist Church; however, due to its target audience, Nova Semente has specialized in communicating with secularized people. The name, "Nova Semente," was inspired by the biblical story of Zacchaeus, who was very curious and eager to know Jesus, but without direct involvement. He was afraid of how he would be seen by society, but after meeting Jesus he was captivated by him and transformed.
