Leila Barros on Basticast! Leila, also known as Leila of Volleyball, is one of the greatest Brazilian women's volleyball players and is currently a senator for the Federal District. An Olympic medalist, she won bronze at the Atlanta (1996) and Sydney (2000) Olympics, in addition to being a three-time Grand Prix champion (1994, 1996 and 1998) and champion of the Winnipeg Pan American Games (1999). In 2000, she was elected by the Brazilian Olympic Committee as the best female athlete in Brazil in the volleyball category. Furthermore, 'Leila do Vôlei' tells us about her participation in beach volleyball and how she became Secretary of Sport and Leisure for the Federal District and consequently became the first female senator for the Federal District in 2018. One of her achievements was Law 14.132, which criminalizes stalking. The former player also works on several other laws that focus on women's rights and defense and the promotion of sports in Brazil.
