The 97th episode of Contemporary Meddah: A Nightmare Unsolved for 50 Years: The Zodiac Killer. Who is the Zodiac Killer? The Zodiac Killer (also known by the nickname Zodiac) is an unidentified serial killer who murdered at least five people in the San Francisco Bay Area between December 1968 and October 1969. Zodiac targeted three couples and a taxi driver in rural Benicia, Vallejo, Napa County, and the city of San Francisco. Two of Zodiac's seven victims survived. In a series of letters sent to Bay Area newspapers, Zodiac claimed responsibility for the murders, recounted details known only to the police, threatened bombings and further murders if the newspapers did not publish his letters, and included coded messages in his correspondence. Two of Zodiac's four cryptic messages were deciphered in 1969 and 2020, while the other two remain unsolved. Zodiac's last letter was received by the San Francisco Chronicle in 1974. In the letter, Zodiac claimed to have killed 37 people. Although there are various theories about Zodiac's true identity, the only suspect named by the police was Arthur Leigh Allen, a former elementary school teacher and convicted sex offender who died in 1992. Zodiac's murders, cryptic messages, and letters to newspapers have made this case one of the most famous unsolved cases in American history. Zodiac has become an integral part of popular culture, and amateur detectives around the world continue their investigations to find his identity. In 2004, the San Francisco Police Department marked the case as "passive," but later reopened it in 2006. The California Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the city of Vallejo, and the Napa and Solano County sheriffs continue to treat the case as "open." Source: Wikipedia.
