Álvaro Miranda | Eurostrings Artist 2020/2021 This online concert is co-funded by Eurostrings and Creative Europe Programme, from the European Union. ----------------------------- BIOGRAPHY The classical guitarist Álvaro Miranda was born in San José, Costa Rica in 1993. He received his first guitar lessons with Jorge Aguilar and Sergio Carrera. In 2014, he studied with Juan Carlos Laguna in Mexico for three years. In recent years, he has received virtual classes with Denis Azabagić and Carlo Marchione. Currently, he has virtual lessons with Paolo Pegoraro through the Segovia Guitar Academy in Pordenone, Italy. Alvaro Miranda won First Prize at: Florida Guitar Foundation Guitar Competition, National Guitar Competition in Costa Rica, Competition of the Latin-American Guitar Festival in Chicago and the International Music Competition ‘Salzburg and Amsterdam’ Grand Prize Virtuoso, among other awards. Álvaro Miranda has participated in a movement to rescue the music and traditions of his native Costa Rica, attending different festivals of music and traditional dance around the world. In 2012, he was chosen to represent Costa Rica at the World Folkloriada in Anseong, South Korea, an event of the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF) where he performed traditional music of his country adapted to solo guitar. He has also performed in the United States, England, Mexico, Czechia and Switzerland. -------------------------------- ABOUT Guimarães International Guitar Festival is organized by the Guimarães Music Society – Guimarães Conservatory, under the artistic direction of Portuguese guitarist Nuno Cachada. It aims to reinforce the classical guitar strand in the musical scene, both in the pedagogical and formative context aiming to foster a new attitude to classical guitar, still little publicized as a soloist instrument.
