It is commonly believed that the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Italy ceased to exist after the Armistice of Cassibile, disintegrating more or less voluntarily. In reality, there are countless examples of resistance to the German occupier, from Rome to Greece to Corsica. The sacrifice of soldiers, airmen, and sailors, the determination not to surrender, the silent opposition of internees, experiences such as those of the First Motorized Group, the Italian Liberation Corps, the Navy commandos, and the officers behind the lines, however, deserve to be known and passed down to posterity.
