Karl Marx #8: Die ursprüngliche Akkumulation - WOHLSTAND FÜR ALLE Ep. 107
We have already discussed how capitalism functions and to what extent people are exploited within it. We also repeatedly point out that capitalism has not always existed, but must be placed in a historic context. But when did this economic system, which today dominates almost the entire globe, emerge? There are various explanations for the origin of capitalism. One can be found in the work of Karl Marx. In the first volume of "Capital," Marx describes historically how the upheaval that ended feudal conditions and established a new form of economy came about. While conservative economists like to tell the myth of the industrious and the lazy, according to which those who worked diligently were able to accumulate wealth while those who only enjoyed themselves and did not work became impoverished, Marx paints a historically accurate picture of the process of its emergence, which began around the 16th century. Capitalist conditions did not develop naturally, but were imposed through brutal means. Feudal aristocrats dispossessed the peasants, and the state did its part to subjugate the newly formed working class. Marx speaks of "primitive accumulation," yet we can observe similar processes today. One thing is certain: private property is not merely the result of diligence, entrepreneurial spirit, and discipline, but also a consequence of violent expropriation.
