A new state parliament was elected in Thuringia three weeks ago. Since then, Thuringian CDU leader Mario Voigt has been trying to hold talks with the other parties toward a new government. But forming a new government in Thuringia isn't all that easy at first glance. Mario Voigt is currently in talks with the SPD and the Federal Social Democratic Party (BSW). They will not govern together with the AfD, and there is a CDU incompatibility resolution against the Left Party. However, together with the SPD and the BSW, they still lack one vote in the state parliament to form a government and become state premier. Therefore, he is discussing with Markus Lanz how Thuringia could become governable and what speaks against an AfD state parliament president. At the same time, however, he is in favor of an AfD vice president.
