The four prisoners are members of the Federal State of the Republic of West Papua (NFRPB). Protesters of the four prisoners have been protesting the transfer, attempting to block the transfer process at the entrance to the Sorong City Police Station since morning. The blockade involved burning wood and used tires in the middle of Jalan Ahmad Yani, Sorong City. They gathered at the Sorong City Police Station from 9:00 PM WIT until 5:00 AM WIT before continuing their demonstration. In addition to blocking the road, the protesters also damaged the offices of the Governor of Southwest Papua and the Mayor of Sorong. Several windows were broken, and the gate was also damaged by the angry crowd. In response to the unrest, police officers reportedly dispersed the protests with rubber bullets and tear gas. However, the crowd retaliated by throwing rocks and fireworks. The protest coordinator, Simson Nauw, stated that the transfer of the four detainees was considered unlawful.
